More often, it’s repetition without reflection. We tend to default to what we heard growing up, without stopping to ask what message it actually sends.

As I shared, everything we say to kids communicates something about social norms, expectations, and relationships. The real work is pausing to consider the gap between what we mean to say and what a child’s mind might actually hear.
